"I know men and I tell you that Jesus Christ
is no mere man. Between Him and every other person in the world
there is no possible term of comparison. Alexander, Caesar,
Charlemagne, and I have founded empires. But on what did we rest
the creation of our genius? Upon force. Jesus Christ founded His
empire upon love; and at this hour millions of men would die for
Him."

"I have found Christian dogma unintelligible.
Early in life I absented myself from Christian assemblies."
|
"We were convinced that the people needs and
requires this faith. We have therefore undertaken the fight
against the atheistic movement, and that not merely with a few
theoretical declarations: we have stamped it out."
|
"No, I don't know that Atheists should be
considered as citizens, nor should they be considered patriots.
This is one nation under God."
|
"If they are good workmen, they may be of
Asia, Africa, or Europe. They may be Mohometans, Jews or
Christians of any Sect, or they may be Atheists."
|
- "The Government, being resolved to undertake the
political and moral purification of our public life, are
creating and securing the conditions necessary for a really
profound revival of religious life....
- The National Government regards the two Christian
Confessions as the weightiest factors for the maintenance of
our nationality. They will respect the agreements concluded
between them and the federal States. Their rights are not to
be infringed....
- It will be the Government's care to maintain honest
co-operation between Church and State; the struggle against
materialistic views and for a real national community is just
as much in the interest of the nation as in that of the
welfare of our Christian faith."

"What you should say to outsiders is that a
Christian has neither more nor less rights in our Association than
an atheist. When our platform becomes too narrow for people of all
creeds and of no creeds, I myself shall not stand upon it."

"The trouble is that when American dollars
earn only six percent over here, they get restless and go overseas
to get 100 percent. The flag follows the dollar and the soldiers
follow the flag.
I wouldn’t go to war again as I have done to
defend some lousy investment of the bankers. We should fight only
for the defense of our home and the Bill of Rights. War for any
other reason is simply a racket.
There isn’t a trick in the racketeering bag
that the military gang is blind to. It had its ‘finger
men’ to point out enemies, its ‘muscle men’ to destroy
enemies, its ‘brain men’ to plan war preparations and a ‘Big
Boss’ — supernationalistic capitalism.
I spent 33 years in the Marines. Most of my
time being a high-class muscle man for Big Business, for Wall
Street and the bankers. In short, I was a racketeer for
capitalism.
I helped purify Nicaragua for the international
banking house of Brown Brothers in 1909-1912. I helped make Mexico
and especially Tampico safe for American oil interests in 1914. I
brought light to the Dominican Republic for American sugar
interests in 1916. I helped make Haiti and Cuba a decent place for
the National City Bank boys to collect revenue in. I helped in the
rape of half a dozen Central American republics for the benefit of
Wall Street."
"War is a racket."

"Think not that I am sent to bring peace on
the earth: I came not to send peace but a sword!"
|
“We have come to be one of the worst ruled, one
of the most completely controlled and dominated Governments in the
world — no longer a Government of free opinion, no longer a
Government by conviction and vote of the majority, but a
Government by the opinion and duress of small groups of dominant
men.”
|
"We have the greatest opportunity the world
has ever seen, as long as we remain honest — which will be as
long as we can keep the attention of our people alive. If they
once become inattentive to public affairs, you and I, and Congress
and Assemblies, judges and governors would all become wolves."
|
"Voice or no voice, the people can always be
brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have
to do is to tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the
pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to
danger."
|
"Every gun that is made, every warship
launched, every rocket signifies, in the final sense, a theft from
those who hunger and are not fed, from those who are cold and are
not clothed.
The world in arms is not spending money alone.
It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its
scientists, the hopes of its children."
|
"The Bible is not my book nor Christianity my
profession."
